Dental Bonding
Bonding is the alternative to veneers and is used to improve the overall appearance of teeth. Bonding is used as a corrective procedure for cracked, disarranged, chipped, or discolored teeth.
How it Works
Your dentist will prepare for the procedure by lightly etching and applying bonding liquid to the surface of the tooth. Plastic resin is then applied, which sculpts the tooth to the desired shape. In order to give a natural appearance, the resin is trimmed and polished once it is set.
Considerations
The bonding procedure can be completed in one office visit. Natural tooth enamel is much stronger than the plastic resin used so there is a higher likelihood of the tooth staining, chipping or breaking compared to a natural tooth. Bonding should last three to five years before a repair is needed.
