DENTURES – Los Angeles Dentist

Dentures are an appliance that is inserted into the mouth. This replaces natural teeth and provides stimulation for the gums and provides support for the cheeks and lips.

Dentures are most commonly made of acrylic and are created two different ways.

  • Conventional Denture: These types of dentures are created after all the teeth in the mouth have been extracted. Once the gums have properly healed, these dentures are created and act as a complete substitute for the teeth in the mouth.
  • Immediate Denture: These dentures are created and immediately inserted after the extraction of teeth. This allows the tissues to heal under the denture
  • Upper Denture: A denture option, that has a flesh color acrylic that covers the roof of the mouth
  • A lower denture is shaped like a horseshoe to leave room for the tongue.

Teeth found on dentures are created from porcelain, plastic or a combination of both. Dentures come in a wide range of options stemming from some that fit over teeth endodontically, and others that are attached to dental implants.

After extended use, dentures will need to be replaced and or relined. This will help keep their fit for optimal comfort. Regular dental examinations should be scheduled in order to maintain optimal oral health and proper healing.
